Add all liquids, then veggies to meat. Put the mushrooms on top of everything else, then the spices on top of them. Put the lid on and let cook for 6-7 hours, or overnight on low setting. Try not to stir very much at all just let it simmer away until meat is fork and spoon tender. At the last 5 minutes ad 1/4 sour cream and stir well to blend.

I am putting this link to Lee Ostlund for the following reasons. She always had two or three crock pots going, as Wayne would have four five gallon containers of fruit wine burping away.

Pot roasts were a favorite dish and it was the first time I had venison as well as bear. They also entertained and fed those who were needy.

My two favorite recollections of her cooking were these: Nearly falls into jokes! Somehow they had gotten the haunch of a cougar and she floured it up well indeed. EVERYBODY loved it until someone asked the ‘What Was It?’ question. She answered, and one person literally lost all color in her face, ran out and threw up. More for me!!!.

On a later date I would have a less tasty experience. For some reason, I was house sitting and she had left three refrigerated crock pots for me to choose from. During the next three days I went through the first crock pot and had revised my opinion of her cooking skills. Veggies, no meat, bland – no salt or spirit to the food at all. When she returned I made my commentary.

Herb, “You were eating Sadie’s food! Sadie was this sad little runt of a dog that had special eating needs. Nothing at all like Olaf the Norwegian Elk hound who was a four footed garbage disposal.

Had I only turned that crock pot around and read the labeling. 🙁
